I’m before my keyboard waiting for the right words to fly from my fingers to describe this evenings Mime Concert hosted by the Centers of Learning By The Sea- EP……performed by
Imagination Express All Aboard
Momentarily I’m speechless……. And I guess that’s the point !!
We had a great experience…….I understood every provocative, humorous, and sensitive plot of each section of the presentation ( I’m unusually dense ) and I’m presently content to enjoy the afterglow of an evening of great entertainment without words----without needing words to express it…..So I’ll sleep on it until tomorrow.
Yes, under the banner review of Rob Appel Presents, I’ve worked with Rosemarie Ballard, founder of Imagination Express…All Aboard… and Judah Buxton a staple of the same company and his own company Creative Entertainment for the past 6 years. Doing street shows, private parties, conventions, corporate bashes and giant galas… Get the idea – this group always satisfies –but I’ve never seen them in concert.
Actually I’ve never seen a Mime concert before—here is something we all may have been missing..The scene was a small, intimate, and soul out perfect venue for about 250 patrons. Usually an audience is split into several factions that alternately enjoy different aspects of a show at different times..Our audience giggled, laughed, sighed, groaned, clapped and participated throughout in unison. Without saying any words we got it all….together. It was eye opening (Eerie)!!
Though everything sparkled I particularly enjoyed “Neiman Marcus” where someone comes in and starts messing around with display window mannequins….I tried that at Victoria’s Secret and got thrown out of the mall. On my trophy wall I have a restraining order! “What’s Your Sign” another standout carries special meaning for me as it brought again tears of shame, terror, joy and hope as remembered from a previous viewing. “Tidbits” also was a standout…but so was entire evening that ended too soon. Have I mentioned the third member of the company Erica Pretzer, who just happened to be in all my favorites selections.
This morning I’m looking at what can be learned from body language in a new light. Before I wasn’t looking at body language as a significant source of human communication at all...I hadn’t paid attention. The CIA could hire this company to canalize spy’s body language and learn a lot.. Truly, there is at least as much training and technique involved at this level of Mime as it takes to make a great principal ballerina, an Oscar winning great actor or Grammy winning composer/conductor.
We saw every famous Mime technique blended expertly throughout the evening and we saw innovation lots more…
Here’s the problem…
What I learned is that galaxies of universal understandings can happen at epiphany levels without spoken words… They can be remembered just as vividly without spoken words… Without redundant verbiage how’s a guy like me going to make a living reviewing a Mime concert? I can’t but I can bring my kids to something this special for only $5.00..and myself for only$10,00…and that buys the best seat in the house, if we arrive a little early for the next concert evening of Mime featuring Imagination Express….All Aboard.
